The local community celebrated the opening of Kirrawee Public School’s sensory space for their students who have special needs.
Local member for Miranda Eleni Petinos said “I’m thrilled to be here today to officially open and to see first-hand the new facilities at Kirrawee Public School.”
The sensory room has been designed and built for students with sensory issues as a way of supporting their need to “time-out” or “breakaway” from their normal school routine. There is an adjoining room for occupational and speech therapists.
Robyn Stephens who has been a support unit teacher for many years at Kirrawee fought back the tears today as the ribbon was cut to officially open the sensory space. “This is a very proud moment for me” Mrs Stephens said.
The new sensory space was described as “cutting edge technology” propelling Kirrawee Public School into a new dynamic within the community.
